So why is it a first for the blog? Well its the first one to be written in the summer. Well its British Summer Time after all. Next its been written at 7pm at night and I'm sitting outside the bowling club and its about 20C. Its fantastic. Next we just ordered the club's first barbecue. The best committee decisions are made when there are only a few to be meet the quorum and we are getting it delivered mid-week. Happy days. We are thinking of buying two and getting a cook-off going. The 10 best BBQ sauces have already been talked about.
Who says Hampden Bowling Club sits still? We had one of the best emails yet to say how good our hospitality is, so a further improvement will go down a storm. Here is a wee excerpt from Kenny's email from Craigentinny:
"What a great day we had on Saturday, finally watching Hibs win the Scottish cup. But every great day must have a beginning! Which of course started at Hampden bowling club. On behalf of all Craigentinny bowling club members, a massive thanks to yourself, the bar staff and ladies who served up the pies. We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was a problem. Everyone was served quickly , tables constantly cleared , all done in a very pleasant atmosphere! Great brucie bonus Hampden BC is a short walk to the ground also. Thanks again and we would love to return in the future! "
It makes you smile when you see this. The Hampden experience is something a wee bit different and its great that the guys love it. The other first this week was that the picture of the blog mentioning last weekend was sent out across Twitter. How cool is that!
There is a hamlet moment going on beside me. Jim Peden with a cigar, revelling in the victory of yesterday's Crystal Maze. Now this isn't hosted by Richard O'Brien (you have to be an eighties kid to remember this fab show). The tourney was an epic affair with Jim, Danny, John and Pat claiming victory.
The Club has also been busy this week in the main tournaments. The Pairs, Triples and Senior Singles got through to the next round of the Scottish Competitions - happy days!. Unfortunately the Triples and Mixed Pairs lost narrow defeats in the Scottish. The Ladies' Pairs also lost out yesterday. Ceiran (our intrepid junior) lost marginally as well.
The other thing that has happened this week is our first advert. We are in the Village Advertiser for Giffnock and Newton Mearns. Its a cracking advert for the club.
So first things first. I have copied the text. I'm not having the same IT disaster as last week.
I have just been told its going to be the best summer for a long time. Here is hoping!!
Cheers
