The last few days of the season were busy. On Thursday night, the usual members of the Tartan Army were hosted at the first Hampden before the crucial football World Cup qualifier. It is nice to see that these days the First Hampden is getting as much a reputation as the Third for being a fortress for the Scottish team. Finally it sent the Tartan Army off to Victory,
On Friday night I ran the first quiz for a good few months. There was a reasonable turn-out, which was good to see. It was close all the way through but The Halfwits led all the way from start to finish and ran out worthy winners. There was some arguing with the quizmaster’s answers but the old adage is that the quizmaster is always right (even if he is wrong).
The official closing day was Saturday. The weather was not looking too hopeful but about 2pm the drizzle stopped and the ten pairs played 14 ends with Australian scoring in lovely sunshine. The winning pair were Don Sleigh and Ann Cleland. Then there was a tasty tea (thanks to the ladies for preparing that) and a raffle. It was a nice afternoon.
There was a bit of sadness in the air that there will be no more bowls played on the green for the next six months but come the spring (Saturday 14th April) the cycle will begin again. There is a full winter programme. The next dates for your diary are the Halloween party with fancy dress on Friday 27th October and then the presentation dance on Friday 10th November (tickets now on sale).
Thanks to our president Carole Sleigh and the rest of the committee for a great season. Roll on the next!
