The Peden Presidency has come to an end - what a great year it has been. At today's meeting a new era was heralded in with a new President, one Carole Sleigh. Today was really well attended with over 35 members turning up to hear the review of the year and elect a new Committee. This was a smooth transition. The Vice President was nominated into the President's position with no objection and the show goes on. All members of the Committee were duly elected with little change. This does give continuity and also ensures that we continue the path that we are on.
So what were the highlights. Well the big one was the new constitution. This was voted in without a hitch. Happy days! The Committee had two spaces on it and was duly filled. Each category of membership has increased and we already have 3 new Gents members for the coming season. We have a few upcoming events that are going to be well attended, which is great also. So a really positive day.
A couple of ideas have now been kicked off. Any existing member that introduces a new member to the club and joins as a full member will be given a bar voucher. Its amazing what a little incentive will bring. The other I spotted on Facebook, where a bowling club cancelled an organised 'work party'. It caught my attention because its something we have never done and looking into it I realised that they had one a month and gave the members the opportunity to do some of the legwork round the club. From painting, gardening, cleaning out sheds to thinking up new ideas. I nearly ran out of paper with the names added so here's hoping that it will be successful.
It was also a week where we were remembered of what can happen when these initiatives are not in clubs. Boness was in the paper this week as its AGM called an end to its 154 year history. With 26 members in attendance, only 6 members voted to keep the club going and it will be wound up this year. Thats a history significantly longer than ours and its such a shame that it will likely make way for a housing development. It definitely gives us the drive to keep going and all the hard work is starting to pay off. More importantly everyone in the clubs wants to muck in, which is great to see.
One big thing from today was the conversation that Hampden is being talked about. From Facebook to Twitter to a weekly blog to a programme on BBC Radio Scotland. People are talking about us and that can only be a good thing for membership. So back to our 6+6 recruitment campaign. Onto reason number 3 for joining. Bowls is a place where you can travel to all sorts of different clubs and meet new people. We have friendlies from Millport to Methven, from Nethertown to Bankfoot and the list is growing. Its a great way to get out and discover parts of Scotland that you might never get too.
So if you are interested or have family and friends that would like to try bowls out then please get in contact with us at the following link.
