The outlook from the weatherman was meant to be stormy on Sunday with high winds and a deluge of rain. Well that wasn't quite right when the sun blinked through the clouds this afternoon. What a lovely surprise. There were many moments when I thought 'will I put out the new bowlsparc gear' - its going to get soaked and no one likes to play bowls in the rain. But anyway It was set out and what a fab way of getting people involved in bowls. Its so simple and effective. Brightly coloured, a challenge and the members were hooked, never mind newbie beginners. So with the posters up, the try bowls bands at the ready and the green was opened.
This was a good road test for us and we have learned loads from today. We need more people on the street (Thanks Laura for all your help today!). Leaflets to hand out and tempt people in. All things we can work on for the next big open day. We have had 6 members join this year so far and considering we are only 40 full members that is already a season's record. It also showed how much pathbeating we will need to do to get out there and talk to people. My thinking cap is already on for that one!
We also released our new banners today - picture below. These are fab and are now around the club. With the Facebook, website, phone number and twitter account emblazoned on it . They are bound to get attention. "New Members Welcome" - yup we need more and this is definitely one way of getting them. Thanks so much to Scott and Leigh for their handiwork and Jim and Kathy for their creative and proofing review of these. They are truly fab and if you are in the Crosshill area you are bound to spot them.
We also had the first piece of silverware won by Mr Williams and Mr Peden - The Glasgow Treasurers and Secretaries Cup. Again a picture below. This was won last Sunday and is a fantastic achievement! Top drawer and a wee victory for HBC. Long may there be more of that this year.
So what else has been happening. I'm sure I spied the Match Secretary doing the draw for the competitions. Who will be the next Club Champions? Which pair will outwit and outplay the rest of the club and scoop the trophy? Lots to look forward too in the coming weeks and months. Also we have the Scottish Cup Final in a couple of week's time. We were fully booked by the time the semi final was finished and I have had to turn away groups - I think at the last count of over 150 folks. We are looking forward to welcoming the guys from Craigentinny Bowling Club and here is hoping that they get the result they are after.
Fab day today. I think the banners will definitely help. They are all strategically positioned where you literally can't miss them. And then there is the trainline and our back wall. Might have cooked up a wee plan for that today. Here's hoping the cunning plan comes together!
Cheers
