So its the end of January. It has been some month. First resolution kept - tick. The blog has been done once a week since the start of the year. Hallelujah. One minor accomplishment and now set to it going through the rest of the year.
The blog is novel for a number of reasons. Its been a great way to record what is going on in a bowling club and i'm yet to find a similar blog. We have been struggling to get people interested enough in making that first step into our wee club, so we think this will help with that. It was interesting speaking to Laura from Bowls Scotland about how so many clubs are struggling to attract new members. Did you know bowling is the 3rd largest participation sport in Scotland with nearly 900 clubs and 90,000 members? We need to keep that going and that is why its so important to give Hampden the best future possible.
Anyway back to the sign of the times. I mentioned that we had a twitter account. Even for me that was a serious learning experience. The first tweet going out and then a few more. This blog will be the 20th tweet from the HBCSecretary@hampdenbowling. I'm finally getting the hang of #tagging and @hampdenbowling and what it really does. Pretty cool was a retweet from Bowls Scotland for the one about the meeting we had with them. The first retweet - tick!. Hopefully loads more to come! Another weekly event has been putting out the song to fill your Friday Evening. We put together a wee list of true classic tunes that defy the test of time at our annual prize giving. The first was Ella Fitzgerald and Lou Reed's 'Dream a little dream' was tweeted out a two weeks ago. Such an amazing song. The next one Disco Inferno by the Trammps. I'll try and keep that going with other beauties.
Also we are now on Streetlife, which has a similar mission to get people in the community talking to each other, giving each other the opportunity to help each other and let people know what is going on. That is also a fab little website that we'll keep our posts there. The Bowling Club is for the Community so we'll definitely keep that updated.
And finally Facebook. So I will be honest I have never used Facebook and generally tried to avoid it. However in the 21st Century for a small bowling club I think we will need to explore setting one up. That will be the last step in truly bringing the club into the 21st Century of social media. I'll let you know when that one is up and running.
So how is it helping? Well you often here about how it helps you get noticed. So I had a wee check on our website as it tracks the number of unique visitors per week. It used to sit around 15 - 20. But with a bit of twitter, blogging and website design we just got over a 100 for this week. How cool is that! We're getting noticed and i'm sure that will climb again. Hopefully we can convert that into members with the upcoming season.
Oh did I tell you we were looking for new members for the new season. Have a wee look at our website to see how to just that :-)
Right better crack on with that to do list to get the 2016 season to be the best one yet!
Cheers
