This week I was sent on an article with the title "You don't have to be old to play bowls". It was shared from Bowls Scotland and it really does say it all about the preconceptions that many people have off bowls. Emily Ferguson's article on all the things she gets asked as 20 year old lawn bowler is something that we have all heard before. Is it ten pin bowling you are on about? Isn't it just for retired people? With my personal favourite - "do you do other old people things like bingo or work in a volunteering shop". This article smashes all the stereotypes and its great to see. I have posted the link on the Facebook and twitter page but here is again. Please have a read. It is the biggest issue that faces the future of bowls and the more we have like this the better.

So while I found this I also spotted another article on the Australian Premier Bowls League. Now that is interesting. They have re-energised bowls. Some basics. Reducing the time to play a game down to 70 minutes, pairs, 3 bowls each and 30 seconds to play and the best bit - you place the jack to save time. Great format and also a spectacle - they broadcast it on Fox Sports as well. Anyway if the Aussies can do it, can we?
I watched the Scottish International Open and compared the two. Quite different. One thing both have is that they have great bowling. Well done to Greg Harlow who ran out winner over Paul Foster in a tie breaker. Great to see the bowls on the television. Here's hoping there is more coverage.
Anyway the mission continues. Ian has now two quotes for the paths. I have managed to speak to Libby (she did the t-shirts) and got the online catalogue of all the stuff we could get with Hampden on it. John whizzed up a questionnaire for the members on how we could improve Friday nights. So the march is on. We all managed to watch the footy in the club on Friday night to see Scotland get beat by England. Here's hoping the return fixture proves more fruitful.
On Monday Night "One Yard Through" sealed another victory to move up to 3rd in the indoor league. Here's hoping tomorrow we keep the run going.
Cheers
