Last year we had a think about the events we could put on during the winter to entertain our members but also provide an event that might appeal to new members. So entwined with this we came up with a whisky tasting that would be around Burns Night - well when else to do something truly Scottish. Like all great HBC ideas they have evolved and changed a number of times but we finally settled on an evening that would take people through the wonder of Scotland's national drink (well the alcoholic one anyway).
I'm sure you would get into all sorts of arguments about what is Scotland's biggest or its best export. For example, one argument might be that the Glasgow game is the format for all modern football. Born in Glasgow in the 1870s and 1880s it formed a passing fluid game, whereas the English game was a kick and rush approach. It was copied the world over.
So what happens when you mix them together? We have come up with a whisky tasting adventure in the first home of Scottish Football. A night to learn something knew. A night to be surprised. There are only 6 tickets remaining so I'm hoping for a sellout. Although nothing to rival past attendances of the 1st Hampden.
So what else have we been up to? Well our Winter Programme to-do-list before Opening Day is extensive but it has been shared out amongst the Committee and we are motoring through it. You also have to realise what your limitations are. We had our minds set on doing the club refurbishment this year but have decided to concentrate on getting the paths redone instead. Ian has been leading the way on this with a number of quotes and we will now get on and get this sorted before opening day - well there is the small matter of filling in a grant application but I'm sure that will be a dawdle. We are also updating our constitution, redoing our business plan, sorting out more open days and their is a small event happening in June to sort out too. Well actually there might be two......
So we are busy. But every so often you get to do something that little bit different. This is definitely it.
We are really looking forward to it but you will only get to see if it you buy a ticket. Just send a wee email to [email protected] and see if there are any left!
Hope to see you there.
Cheers
