This week kicked off with the Trybowls night. Dryish but then the heavens opened. But we still managed to squeeze in a few coaching lessons with Denise showing the best way to grip the bowl in the delivery. We also had a few ties on the green. Now you might think that you can't play in the rain but Monday night proved something different. It was proper chucking it down and the guys were forced to wait it out. It eventually got down to a mere shower rather than a torrent and they braved it out to complete their tie. A truly hardy bunch.
On Wednesday night was the Committee. Where we all gather to discuss what's going on at Hampden. Lots to discuss from the backwall, the hedge and the ongoing discussions with Network Rail, planning for the upcoming Scotland England game and the duty rota. Some are more contentious than others but its always an interesting meeting. The big thing is to get the place moving and change things up. Lots to get on with.
Lots of action this week in the Bowls Scotland and Scottish tournaments. Chris Brown has go through to the semi final of the Junior Bowls Scotland tournament which is a fantastic achievement. The Triples of Alan Smith, Jim Milligan and Danny Thomson beat Wellcroft to continue in the Scottish, as did Gerry Murphy in the Bowls Scotland Singles. Carole Sleigh played the best game of her life but was still edged out in the Scottish Seniors. Hampden also represented Glasgow in the Torrance Purvis but the ladies triples did not progress. Hats off to all involved for representing the club and giving the opposition a run for their money! What we also do is host events and it was great to hear a compliment from a member of Kirkhill on the high quality catering and reception after the match. We are really proud of our reputation!
We also made the trip up the A9 to Bankfoot on Saturday for the annual friendly. It's great as this is second year of the contest. A great day had by all.
As for the big thing for the club this week is that we kick off the Cathcart league. The Champions League of the Southside Bowling Scene... Every Thursday night we will have ties with triples going out home and away. From Cathcart to Weirs, Kingswood to Queens Park, Castlemilk to Giffnock - let's hope our teams put on show and cause a few upsets. Probably our strongest squad for a while so heres hoping. Follow the blog for how we get on!
Have a good week.
