This week the big event was closing day. On Saturday we had our final game on the green with everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves. If we are honest it was one of the best days of the summer - how ironic that was considering it was the 1st October. It was blue sky and in the sun it was quite toasty - check out the Facebook page for some photos. There were 24 on the green - 6 rinks playing the Aussie scoring way. 4 points for the closest, 3 for the second, 2 points for the 3rd and 1 point for the fourth. We thought it would be chaos but our stand-in match secretary Jim P sorted them all out with the scorecards that had everybody doing it properly. It was so good to see that mixing it up a bit made everyone get quite competitive and there was a lot of measuring going on. One of the best events that I have been involved in and definitely will be used for next year.
So to add to it we had Chris Quilletti from BBC Radio Scotland roving around getting more interviews for the Out of Hours programme that we will be featured on. He was able to get some great interviews including Peggy and JJ who both are in their 90s. Amazing to hear their stories and what the bowling club means to them. Its inspiring stuff and you realise just how important our mission is to keep Hampden going so that everyone can enjoy the club into their latter years. He also chatted with Charlotte, Ian W, Linda, June as well as getting out on the green and recording lots of banter from the bowling.
We can’t wait for the programme to go out and its scheduled for either of the first two Saturdays in December. It goes out at 630am so it will be an early rise - but we’ll get a night organised for everyone to come down and listen to it. We’re getting some copies for the archives which is great.
So the season is over and the winter is coming. The winter schedule was handed out to everyone. There are so many events to look forward too. It all kicks off this week with the usual quiz on Friday night. John D is in the chair and should be the usual grand evening. Please make it along - its these nights that make the club.
Thanks to everyone in the club for their work over the season to make it a memorable one. The weather has been the usual Scottish standard - patchy at best. Although I have just looked at the weather forecast for this week and its dry all week. How ironic is that? Not sure we have had a dry week since about April. Quiz question was which year :-)
