We can finally talk about the bowling :-) It has been a long winter. Its funny that I have been able to fill every week since the turn of the year with the going-ons of HBC. Its great to dust off the bowls and get out on the green. Had my first throw of the year on Saturday. It looks like the winter shutdown has done by bowling no harm. Still as average as ever :-)
The drive for new members is getting going. We had 4 members sign up this week alone. Which is brilliant. In fact one of them was due to one of the other club's not getting back to him. Their loss. Our gain. It just shows you how important it is to have Facebook and someone regularly checking email. Contacted on Monday, signed up by Tuesday and out on the green by Wednesday. As easy at that! Great for us as well as straight into the Gents Team. Alan is one to watch me thinks...
The first event is next Saturday with the Two Bowls Triples. Should be a good season opener for the club. We're hoping for a good summer with sunshine and a dry spell (yes I do know we live in Scotland). That would do the green a lot of good. It takes some amount of work to get a green into good shape. Lets hope the large amount of work was done at the end of last year pays off!
What else have we been up to? Well there a few games of football at the 3rd Hampden this weekend (I love calling it that). We had a fabulous set of Dundee Utd Fans who made the trip through. Neil, Ashley et al had a great time in the club. Shame about the result but our hospitality softened the defeat a wee bit. Their reviews that they have sent are cracking and so appreciated. It just shows what the club has to offer. The members of the Club all worked their socks off on Saturday. There was over 50 fans there at one point. It is getting popular and word is spreading. In fact by 7pm on Saturday we were fully booked for the final in May. Happy days!
Its great looking back to what we have managed to do in the close season. The club is looking good. The social media is now fully in place and working well. We are attracting new members. Oh and almost forgot we have a few banners getting made up for around the place. We are going to have an open evening every Tuesday night through the summer to tempt people in. Our new Bowlsparc kit will hopefully do the trick. So if you are not a member and you fancy a wee try out - get in touch and you never know - we might discover the next bowling star in you.
Cheers
