This week has been one of those weeks where a number of thins come together and you think. Happy Days!
First and foremost in a clubs mindsets is the green. It's the lifeblood of any bowling club and its preparation for the summer is so important. The greens of Glasgow have suffered over the last couple of years due to the lack of one of winter's best friends. Frost. And a lot of one of its greatest enemies. Rain and the moss that follows. Happily we have had a few hard frosts. Although you may think that the green is put on bed, it's really far from the truth. Last week the green was cored. So for you green lovers out there this meant that the whole green had 3" cores taken out. Aerating the green and also allowing it to be overseeded. David has been working really hard with the green over the last couple of years and its starting to pay off.
So with coring comes the cleanup. There was a squad down today to clear them and black bag the lot. Now you might think that this is an easy job but it was over 120 bags. The President wanted to pass on his thanks. In no particular order Ian Williams, Alex Rae, John Anderson, John Miller, Jim Peden, Kathy Peden and David the green keeper. Thanks so much for their work today. It's this team effort that makes a club what it is. This is just one example. Then there is the painting job Mr Shedden is completing. Its just brilliant to see how a coat of paint makes such a difference.
So what else has been happening? Well first and foremost over the last couple of months, I have been working on a new constitution. Not just a few tweaks but a whole re-write. So for the committee it was a moment of truth and to see how far we had come as a bowling club. 3 years ago it would have been kicked out the park. This year it was agreed to be put forward to the members with a tweaks. How good is that?
And on Friday night there was the quiz. John and Yvonne did a sterling job managing a full house. Its brilliant that these nights are filling up. It just shows you how these are starting to gather a bit of a following.
And there there was a wee Facebook post from Project Glasgow. They had a photo of the bowling club and explained a bit of the history. In reply I sent the video - the Our History one. I have always thought that this has legs and after posting it back it has been viewed over 1800 times. How cool is that? I think it will be shared a few more times and we need everyone's help to do just that.
Hampden is getting on the map. 2017 I think will be an amazing year. If last year is anything to go by then this year is going to be something else!
Cheers
