On Saturday we had our annual summer fete. Weeks in the planning and over the years it has become a well oiled machine. Its a great example of when a club pulls together and puts on a show. First up is the promotion. A massive thanks Leigh and Scott for organising the flyers for the event. A bit of a design brainstorm, picking up a great photo from a couple of years ago and a few new additional items we had our flyer. This was posted through the letterboxes of our neighbours of the local streets. Then it was blitzed on Twitter, Facebook and Streetlife. How effective was it? Well all afternoon there was a steady stream of people - we were well over a 100 people on the day. Maybe even 200......might invest in a clicker next year :-)
Then there is all the prep. From the donations for the bric-a-brac, tombola, raffle, book and DVD stall to the homebaking for the tearoom. These are just some of the examples of the great work that was done. Then there is the club itself. Lots of great work on the paths, flowerpots, grass and hedges. As I walked out one of the visitors commented that it was "the best the club has been looking in years". Happy days!
And finally its the day itself. Everyone talked about how it felt more like a fete as you walked through it. Three big changes helped. A massive gazebo that we put up on Friday night - bit of a construction job and also had to manage it from blowing away a few times :-). The barbecue was on and we also had a face painter. When you add to the usual stalls and tea-room (which was mobbed all day) it had something for everyone. And finally the games on the green. Our usual 3 part game on the green with a winner amongst the kids and one for the adults was a huge hit! Lets hope we get some would-be bowler out of it. Well done to all the volunteers from the club to make it all happen.
Overall a great day out had by all. We are looking forward to next year already.
A few other things last week. Our Cathcart form hit the floor again with a whitewash dished out to us in the league from Kingswood. Also Pat Hunter was playing on Monday in the Seniors singles at Cardonald. He asked me to put the following "Thanks Charlie boy for the lesson".
And there is this week with the ladies out in the Glasgow Triples on Tuesday in the semi-final. Its fab for the club and we wish them all the luck in the world. Go Girls!
Cheers
