A bit of a quiet week for HBC this week. The Gents Cathcart League was off as the Glasgow Ayrshire game was on. There was no friendly or tournament at the weekend to talk about. However there has been a lot of sport on the tele to take our minds off it. I wandered over to the club yesterday and the Wimbledon Ladies Final was on. A few had been out in a tie to keep the annual competitions ticking over. Such a great wee place if you fancy a cheeky beer in the afternoon.
Ok back to the ties. I haven't spoken much about the club competitions. Club Championship is the pick of the bunch for both the Ladies and the Gents. Much coveted and the one everyone is aiming for. But there are lots of others including the Kingsley Cup, Presidents, Vice Presidents, Ronaldsons, Balloted pairs, Nominated Pairs.... the list goes on. In fact so many that Prize Giving Night goes on for quite a while but more importantly it gives everyone in the club a chance at a trophy. I'm sure there will be a few new names on the trophies this year. There are a couple of new members to watch and i'm sure there will be a few upsets. There was a great example of that during the week. Lets just say it ain't over to its over and if you are in the mire, pull out the mat. You never know it might just work ;-)
We had the Committee meeting on Wednesday and our attention now turns to the Summer Fete. Each year we have an open day with so much to showcase our wee club. This year we are going all out to get as many people as we can into the club. So the date for your Diaries is Saturday 30th July from 2pm. There will be games on the green, stalls, beer and food tent (this one is a great new feature), raffles, tea room.... the list is endless. First task is promotion and we hope to do that in spades.
So HBC2020 - I sent a wee email off to the SFA to see if there was any interest in the fact that we are the first Hampden. Lets see what they have any interest. As for one other thing I learned this week is that Queens Park celebrated their 149th Birthday on Saturday and their big one is next year. Thinking cap on for that. remember they played their first games at our wee bowling club. Lets see how far we can get with that. Also Scotland play England next June. How cool would it be if we got a mention....... that is the mission!!!
Cheers

PS Why the title - Hampden Anthems is our weekly song for the weekend - look out for it. The playlist is growing!!
