The wait is nearly over. We have two weeks to go until Opening Day. The winter shutdown is nearly done and the first big cut of the green was done this week. Each year the green gets better and David has worked some wonders over the winter. Its looking really good. Next weekend we will have the TryBowls Video being filmed at Hampden, The first time there has been TV cameras at HBC. So really looking forward to that.
There is so much that goes into the Opening Day. Its our big event of the year and we have sent out our usual invites out into the local clubs and are hoping for a great day. Queens Park FC is celebrating its 150th year this year and so is Queens Park Bowling Club. Its a massive milestone for a club. So the 8th April we will open the green once again and hoping for weather like we are having today.
Today we have our usual tartan army lads in before they head off to the 3rd Hampden to watch the footy. They are in fine form. In fact they are blasting out a few songs as we speak. They are a great group and we get the same faces in each time. I'm already fully booked for the Scotland v England game so that is shaping up to be a great event. Its also finally on a good day of the week and on a Saturday. Happy days for us.
It was also the first committee of the year with Carole taking the reigns. There is a lot going on and we have a lot to get done over the summer. There are a lot of fixtures and we are hoping the recruitment drive continues. We are up to 3 new Gents members which is great and hoping to attract a few ladies into the squad. We also met up with Mark Worst on Thursday to see about a mural for the back wall. I'm hoping to get that done in the next couple of months too.
We have a meeting with Lawra this week from Bowls Scotland so that will be really good to meet up and get introduced. A wee special mention to Laura - we wish her all the best. Onwards and upwards.
The crowdfunding page is up and running. I fired out a wee video thinking that it might get some traction with the footy today. Its not got there yet. So back to the drawing board. I have come up with my own wee challenge to help the fundraising. Once i've sorted it I'll put it in.
Have a great week,
Cheers
