How exciting. Let jump back in time. If you had asked me 3 years ago if our bowling club would be on the radio, I would have laughed at you. If you had asked any of the members over the last 30 years what are the chances of Hampden being on the radio, they would have asked how much had you had to drink. And yet here we are in a week where Hampden is on not only the radio but on BBC Radio Scotland. And not just a clip or a snippet, but we are on air for 30 minutes telling the world our story. And to top it off its on at 1:30pm on a Wednesday afternoon and gets repeated another two times. How cool is that?
So how many people are going to be listening? Well lets have a think. According to figures BBC Radio Scotland has about 1 million listeners a week. Now not all of them are listening at the same time, however Our Story and Out of Doors are really popular programmes and are downloaded in it thousands. They are usually on at the 6am slot on a Saturday morning but our programme has been moved due to the winter schedule - what a stroke of luck! So here's hoping that the usual fans are not dissapointed. Its a great story and I can't wait to hear it. I'm sure it will do our club the world of good.
So what else has been happening. Well the Committee met on Wednesday night to discuss the to-do-list before Opening Day next year. Yup its a long list. But we are all pitching in and starting to make a dent in it. It ranges from the Club business plan, back wall painting, refurbishment, paths needing fixed and most importantly how we are going to do attract new members. Yes Ladies and Gents, our club needs new members. So if you are reading this for the first time, maybe listened to the radio this week and you have had a week think and thought about joining a club - then Hampden is for you. You just need to come and have a look!
Here's hoping for a brilliant week. The most important part isn't just about Hampden. Its about people across the country talking about bowls. Its about the 900 or so clubs that all have fantastic stories to share and are all looking to get more and more people into the game. So here's to bowling and more programmes that put a big spotlight on it!
Cheers
