I have often talked about the friendlies that we have had over the course of this year. I have come to a conclusion for how our little club can have a great future ahead of it. Over the year I have spoken to a number of the local clubs that are also having issues with not only attracting new members but also from being able to get teams out for competitions. In bowling a squad is essential if you want to play in all the different competitions but if you are unable too then you have to pick them carefully. For us I think the future is going to be on having great friendlies through the year that get our members out meeting new people and forging relationships with clubs across the country.
We have superb links with a number of clubs including Nethertown, Millport, Bankfoot and today's friendly against Methven. I talked to Jim on the bus home and you could tell what a great day it was. Sun splitting the sky all day. The bowls were great, the company excellent, the drinks on offer superb and the food at the end of the day fab. Even though Hampden only were up in one of the games it didn't matter (although Jim was keen to point out that his President's rink actually won). So its these sorts of games and trips that I think we need to have more of next year. We already have Craigentinny heading our way next year and I am also cooking up a much bigger event for next June. But that is under wraps until I can get it off the ground.....
On another note we are heading to finals weekend on Saturday and Sunday this week. There are some great finals already lined up. We have Tommy Clark in Gents Championship against Danny Thomson. We have John Douglas in the VPs (apologies John for my wee mistake in last week's blog...) against either myself or Alan Smith (that's Tuesday's game to look forward too). Tommy is also playing Jim Peden in the Seniors. Anne and Charlotte are in the finals of the Ladies Championship and the Ronaldson. So good luck to all.
I have the finals Weekend line up sorted by the middle of the week for a one off post. There will be beers and barbecue to celebrate on Saturday night - so it will be a great day! The season finale is nearly here!
