Off the back of the BBC Radio Scotland Story and the training course the other week, I have seen a big increase on the traffic to the website. Its gone from the usual 150 individual users to the site in one week and is now at 490. A 3 fold increase which is amazing - so the question can we tip it over the 500 mark. Here's hoping.
I also got a lovely comment from Senga at Biggar Bowling Club on the last blog. She was explaining how at Biggar there had been a few similar incidents of frozen pipes and how even after the new heating system went in there still needs to be a few from the club who keep a daily vigil during cold spells. More importantly she was saying what a great idea it is for clubs around the country to be chatting to each other and sharing their stories. As she puts it 'we are the grass roots of the associations' which is so true. We are really looking forward to our radio programme so this week I stuck it out on facebook with Senga's comments. Created a little hashtag #Bowlsnation and see what happens. Not the first time it has been used (well its been used once before) but it will be great if it takes off.
I also had a delivery of a Christmas tree on Saturday. What was funny was that the guy that delivered it started to ask if I realised that across from my flat was the original Hampden Park (Yes I do overlook the bowling club). What were the chances. So we got chatting and found out that Alan is the Chair of the Govanhill Baths Community Trust, as well as delivering 30 trees for Locavore that day. He is also fascinated (as am I) of the local history and we traded lots of stories. It was also great chat about how organisations like ours need to work together more to get our stories out there. Definitely one to look at.
So what else has been happening? Well John took care of the Hampden Quiz on Friday night with a dozen or so Hampdeners taking part. Not as many as we would hope for but they all enjoyed themselves nonetheless. I bumped into Yvonne and John earlier and we have a Burns Supper lined up for the 27th January - need to get cracking organising that. Emailing straight after this....
So with only a couple of weeks to go to the big radio show. I'm going to tag up 'Our History' video. There are still so many that don't know our story and I had said to Alan that I would share it again. So here it is. The timing of the train going by is amazing!
