At a bowling club during the summer you think 'ah the winter - that will be the time to put the feet up and look forward to a summer of bowls'. But for the Committee its actually the opposite. You might only be open a couple of times a week but there is so much to do in the closed season. This week has been no exception.
Lets kick off with our meeting with Laura Kerr from Bowls Scotland. As you may have read we catch up every so often to go through our rather long to-do-list of the things as part of our Development Club status. For once we had created a bigger list than Laura and she was taken aback when Ian and I presented her with our version of the HBC list. Well impressed :-) Its interesting to learn how many clubs don't have this sort of planning. And they wonder why their numbers are dropping and people are loosing interest in their sport. For us this little bit of planning has really helped get our head around the things that need done to keep our club going.
We were also gutted this week as we had an invite to speak at the Bowls Scotland Coach and Club Conference on the 26th February. Running a workshop telling everyone about what we have been up too. However glancing at the diary we realised that is our AGM. What were the chances of a clash like that. Actually having seen the agenda it looks blooming good and gutted we can't make it.
The next one was the Committee meeting. Now these used to be quite a mechanical affair. Going through the motions and updates. Now there is so much to talk about and is a positive and engaging forum for everyone to catch up on what is going and planned for the year and most importantly share out the workload. The big one is the AGM which is happening on the 26th February. I'll come back to that in later blogs - but there are a few changes afoot. Not too mention heralding in the Carole Sleigh Presidency :-)
The last one is the most exciting. Yes we are holding a whisky tasting event on Friday 27th January at 7.30pm. The wee organising Committee met up on Thursday night to sort out the details. Its going to be a great night. We've got a tour of Scotland, sampling 5 whiskies and learning not only about the whiskies but also all about the history of this wonderful spirit. We will also have a few other things but you will have to fork out the £10 ticket price to find out. There are only 12 left for the night so if you haven't got one yet then you need to get your skates on.
Please email me at [email protected] if you want one reserved for you.
Okay some week but who says a bowling club is boring in the off season - we are going to make sure its anything but that!
Cheers
