This week we launched our first video ahead of the birthday celebration on the 27th March. Its the first in a series of 3 minute videos and this one was on the history of the club. Avid readers of the blog will know that the history is unique. But its much better when you hear it from Ged O'Brien, who was the Project Director of the Football Museum at the current Hampden. He's also written a book about games played in Glasgow, which is fab. Glasgow has given the world so much! So it was perfect to get his thoughts about the importance of the bowling club on video. I had no idea that the first Hampden was the first purposefully built international football stadium in the world. Yup its amazing. Then you add in that the building is the original pavilion and you suddenly supercharge just how important it is to ensure that future generations know our story.
The video itself had two main parts. The filming of Ged was done by two proper professionals (Tam and Rory) whilst the walk into the bowling club was my amateur effort. With a new phone I thought I would do the walk so people would recognise the setting. It was a beautiful Sunday morning and so quiet. I was hoping that a train might go by and I was obviously having a very lucky day. The timing in the video was perfection..... I could have done that for a fortnight and that would not have happened. On Facebook its been viewed 950 times, which is pretty cool. Not bad considering its only been up a little over 24 hours :-)
Today was also Cup Final day at Hampden's Little (but considerably bigger) Brother. Do I get to say that? Well we had 41 Hibs fans in the club. 5 groups and they were fab. They really enjoyed themselves. The result didn't go their way but they really enjoyed the HBC hospitality. A reasonably priced bar, pies and beans and able to go before and after the game. Its a proper little gem and so close to the ground. I was joking with Andy (one of the fans) that we are a bit of bad luck to them as that's twice they have come through and gone home without a victory. Here's hoping that its third time lucky! I could have filled it three times over with the amount of enquiries. The website is working a treat.
I also went for a wee cycle today and took in the three Hampdens. I hadn't been up to Cathkin Park (site of the old Third Lanark) and you would hardly believe that there used to 40,000 fans on the terracing. Another place with so much history. I was busy taking a photo when the guy setting up (i'm rubbish with names - think it was Kevin or Keith) showed me round the Jimmy Johnstone Academy. What looked like a changing room turned out to be so much more. Photos, trophies, letters, signed shirts, patrons - the place was amazing. They run a number of youth teams and are now up to 17 that have made it to a professional level. Overall an inspiring place and showed the history of Cathkin Park so well.. Its always been my ambition to do something similar with HBC...
Looking forward to the next video. I think I can just about top the first one....
Cheers
