What a week.. There has been so much going on this week that i'm sure I'll cram it in but i'll have a go. So we'll start with today and work backwards. About a month ago I had an email from Laura from Bowls Scotland about the upcoming TryBowls campaign and wondered whether we would like to host the filming. It was a no-brainer for us and today we had Heather Suttie producing the video, Aiden on the Recording, Lorraine on the photography and Stuart coordinating the games - thanks so much all of you! And most importantly there was a beautiful sunny day to accompany the filming. It was a great day and the place looked fab. I think the outputs will be fantastic and can't wait to see them. There was also a number of residents over which was great to see the kids from the neighbourhood enjoying themselves. I also managed to show them the now famous map on the area and it was great to see their enthusiasm too. Thanks to the members today too.
I also showed the video to Heather and Lorraine. Both came up with ideas on how to get the funding moving and also some other ideas that were fab. Lots to go away and get on with and builds on the rest of the week we've had. This has mainly focussed on getting the place ready for opening day. The Hampden Hill is now nearly cleared. Pat and I spent a lot of time on it yesterday to clear it all and get it ready for the 'chipper' to arrive which we hope will be Tuesday. Its amazing how good the hill looks and the extra light that it brings in. Tommy also came down and chopped the hedge, which made such a difference.
Its been a busy week for #Restore1stHampden campaign. On Friday I met up with Mark Hudson from Sports Glasgow and learned all the things that they can offer. By the end of the meeting we were registered on the GlasgowLife club finder as well as signing up to the SportsCouncil for Glasgow. I also managed to get lots of tips about how to get volunteers in and a range of courses that are coming up. If you are a bowling club in the local area it would be so worthwhile to catchup with Mark. So helpful.
On Thursday night I met up with Lawra Cox (she is covering Laura Kerr's maternity placement - by the way Big Congrats :-) and John Kerr (National Development Manager). Laura K has suggested they came down to see what we are up to and I can say they were thoroughly impressed. The mission itself, the upcoming events to showcase the club and all the work that we are putting in to create a great future for the club. I am looking forward to catching up again to discuss the plans :-)
We also managed to host a residents meeting the other night. It showed what an asset the Bowling club is. A neutral free venue for the community to come in and discuss current issues. Lots of great positive moves forward came out of that.
So we have 6 days to go before Opening Day. The winter has been a fantastic opportunity to really improve the place. The green is looking fab and the money invested has been so worthwhile. Finding out once and for all we are on the 1st Hampden is one of the best things to ever happen to the club. And finally we have turbocharged the planning and the links that I believe will transform the place.
This week I think is the start of the next big chapter. One I think we will look back and say - that is where it all changed!
