Another week in HBC land. The big event was the mixed pairs on Saturday. If you have seen the Facebook page you will have seen the wet weather. Literally we walked out to start and it started raining. Spitting to start and then literally started chucking it down. We managed to scarper off for a 10 minute break and then got back into the action. It was a grand day. It was meant to be a mixed pairs game but with the numbers it didn't quite work out that way. 9 teams were out in the changeable weather with two leagues playing out to get into the final. Not quite the Euros but it came down to a final with Gerry and John came out victorious.
Then there was the Cathcart league. Well here was a bit of a change. After a decent run the HBC squad walked away on Thursday after suffering 4 defeats. My own team were 7 shots up only to loose a 5 twice in a row. We lost by a shot. Sometimes its better to get beat by a lot than loose by a shot, especially when you were so far ahead. But hey ho that is bowls.
We also had our usual Tuesday evening open night. We had a family from Rutherglen come along (would you believe that we are the closest to them that are part of the TryBowls Campaign) and really enjoyed themselves. We had the TryBowls equipment out and it works really well. Time flies by when you are having fun and they definitely couldn't believe that an hour and a half had gone by. So they took away a couple of membership forms and hopefully come back next week.
Week ahead well we have a few events going on:
- Tuesday night we have the Open Night
- Friday night we have the usual monthly quiz - which reminds me I need to put it together - open to all.
- Saturday afternoon we are host to Mount Florida for the annual friendly - here's hoping we can take the honours this year!
Cheers
