So another week for HBC. Each week I write this I think there might be a week that I haven't got much to write about and then I get to Sunday Evening and hey presto I realise there has been tonnes going on. Friday night got off to a flyer with a number of us heading along to the greyhound racing at Shawfield. What a great night out that was. A few beers. A few bets. It was a proper evening's entertainment!
On Saturday we had a party for one of the neighbours sons, who hit his 7th birthday. It was a great afternoon. All of the kids had a blast! Hats off to John and Ali for keeping the kids entertained. I played a small DJ part in it providing the music for pass the parcel and musical statues - which I haven't seen in a long time. It was also rather funny when 5 of them were trying to explain what 'Ninjago' was to me so I could put its theme music on. I had absolutely no idea and had them spelling it out. I just ended up giving them the laptop to find it on google....
All in all the Birthday Boy was 'over the moon' with his day. It was a great little event and another feature of what we can offer at the bowling club. In fact a few were asking if they were getting to play bowls :-) We'll just need to save that for when the season gets off and running. We haven't seen decibel levels like it for a long time! One funny thing was when Mr Peden turned up and the parents and kids recognised him. Yes he is lollipop man as well! We also signed John and Ali (and the kids) up as our first Resident Members. Happy days!
Then there was today. Well if you had seen the picture on Facebook or Twitter, then you would have seen how I had set up the Secretary's Office today. It was beautiful. A proper Spring morning. I'm hoping that the rest of the year will be the same!
There was also another set of filming done for the documentary my neighbour Tam is doing on Third Lanark. This time it was Alan McKay and Tony Connell that were giving insight into their days at the mighty Thirds. Alan was the last Captain of the club and both talked about all the stories from their playing days. Its great that this is getting put on camera. I can't wait to see the final cut! Even better was the guys did a bit of filming at the end and a few pictures of the place as it looks just now. Did I tell you were are on a mission to do the place up? I'm hoping for a before and after video at some point by the end of the year.
We also hit another milestone this week. We have hit our 100th follower on Twitter (Much Wenlock Bowling Club took that honour) and we also had 176 unique visitors to the website this week. So here is a wee request. Can you help spread the word? The more people we have accessing the website the better. The more people we have on twitter (please retweet us - I finally got the hang of that) and liking our page on the Facebook the better.
To give you a wee example of what a difference its making is the upcoming Hibs v Ross County League Cup Final. We have a full house of Hibs fans coming through for it. 6 small groups who have found us on the website and booked in for a pre-match beer and a pie with beans. All of that was possible through the website. We actually had enquiries for another 70 odd but we can only hold 45. A small but beautiful venue and i'm sure it will be a great day!
So onto next week. Well the big event is the Hampden Quiz on Friday night at 7.30pm. If you fancy it and want to come along then drop the club an email - all of the info is on our contact page. Then you can see for yourself what a great little club we have!
Cheers
