Who needs Trump or Clinton, when we have our own Jim Peden. His Presidential Campaign started out at 2.45pm today and it was all done in 1 minute. He was proposed by the outgoing President and seconded by one of the ordinary members of the Club. With no objections lodged and having served last year as Vice President, there was no one to stand in his way to the top job. His victory speech was classic Jim. He announced that it was the interval and everyone should get a cup of tea. I'm sure a lot of the presidential candidates could learn from our own Jim Peden :-)
His Committee was duly elected without hitch with the only vote being needed on the ordinary member posts on the Committee. All done in less than an hour. The 30 or so members who had made it through the typical dreich day were also updated on all things Hampden. The Secretary's report broke all records for time, content and I was duly elected to serve another turn. Phew! Last year was pretty good but 2016 should really motor our little club along.
So the AGM has been completed. What else have we been up too? Well our Twitter and Facebook feed had a wee picture on it from during the week. Yup we have become a Level 1 Development Club through Bowls Scotland. Laura has been fab listening to all of our ideas, giving us pointers from everything from membership to the back wall running along the railway line. The offer to become a development club was snapped up without delay and we are now firmly on a path to improve the club. We have lots of big plans, which I'm sure future blogs will talk about. Even just the to-do-list to be completed by Opening Day is a wee bit long. There was about 30 things on it and all were dished out at Monday's Committee Meeting, which will make the club look fab for the Opening of the Green.
Right so what else has been happening? Well I had a disaster with Facebook. Yup the novice failed to set it up properly first time. It was only just managed to be salvage by creating a page rather than just having an account under HBC Secretary. Okay I have never used it before and all the 186 friends that I had managed to build up over the week were suddenly 'likes'. The HBC page is now back up and the draft fixture list has now been loaded which is pretty cool. We have got so much to look forward too this year and it all gets going when our local MP unfurls the flag on Opening Day on the 9th April.
One thing I did manage to sneak into the fixture list is a shindig to celebrate the Club's Birthday on the 27th March from 1pm. Yup HBC is 111 years old this year and I'm cooking up a bit of a party. It will be an open day for all those that have now had their fancy tickled and would be interested in joining the club. We would love for everyone to come along and see what the club has to offer and listen to our plans. From the packed fixture list to the competitions to the busy social calendar that suits all ages. Its going to be a great year and we want to share it with the Community, so here's hoping you can make it. There will be plenty of chat between now and then I'm sure :-)
Cheers
