This week there was a lot of things going on at the Bowling Club. There are two big events coming up. Next Sunday will be the 111th Birthday of the club and then on the 9th of April the bowling finally begins and the green is opened. Both need the Club looking at its best and there is so much to be done.
Well at least the sun has been shining - hopefully a sign for a good summer. But its amazing just how much needs done. Number one priority has been the flagpole getting fixed and was finally raised today. With a couple of weeks to spare we can now definitely unfurl a flag on Opening Day. Close shave... Next we have to get the green into shape and out has come the lawnmower. The first cut of the green was this week too, so yes we do possess one :-) With a bit of edge cutting and ditch cleaning it is starting to look the part. Only about another 100 things on the to-do list. Cleaning, tidying, gardening, painting, minor repairs..... Then there are invites to other clubs (need to get on with that), getting a flag unfurled (more difficult than you think) and finally trying to work out who can we send to the other club opening days that we get kindly invited too. Lets just hoping that its sunny on the 9th April.
Then there is next weekend. A wee celebration for the 111th Birthday of the Bowling Club. Now its not everyday that you go to a celebration from someone older than a 100 years old. Think what they have seen in their day. I managed to find the minute book of the club and there it was in beautiful handwriting the first minute of the first meeting from 1905. Its amazing that this was in one of the lockers along with a number of other minute books from the ages. I looked up google to see what was going on that day in 1905. Well the first British Murder to be solved using fingerprints took place in Deptford that day....mmm not what I was looking for. King Edward VII was on the throne. Horse and Carriage taxis were a common mode of transport in Glasgow, as well as the newly electrified tram system. It actually was a bit harder than I thought - might have to do a bit more digging this year.
So what have we managed to cook up for the day. Well we'll have our new bowlsparc equipment arriving in and hope to have a rink open to get any beginners that come along started. We'll have the usual warm welcome and a bit of history of the place. We are looking for new members so I'm sure we can tempt a few into joining our little club. All in all we just hope that a few people will be able to make it along and see what the club has to offer.
As for other things the video I put up last week has been shared a few times. Now been seen by 3,600 on Facebook at the last count. Not bad at all. Got a community one in the editing, taking a bit longer than expected but I'm sure i'll get that out this week.
Lots to be getting on with. Oh and nearly forgot. Hampden Anthem for the weekend.... Well finally wanted to bring it up to date a bit so how about 'Viva La Vida by Coldplay'. A personal favourite.
Cheers
