So here it is. It's Hogmanay. Today we celebrate two things. A very successful 2016 for our wee bowling club. The other is that the mission is complete. On the 8th Januray 2016 I laid out the statement that I would do a weekly blog covering the goings-on of a small bowling club. It would cover the highs, the lows, the hard work, dedication and most importantly what we are up to at our little club. It would show the world that there is so much more to a bowling club than meets the eye.
So for the last 51 weeks I have spent a 1/2 hour telling the world the ongoing life of Hampden Bowling Club. I did a wordcount on the blog and it has come in a little over 36,000 words. Who would have thought that there is so much to talk about? It is now locked in a website forever which is fantastic and we can look at in years to come. That was the mission - create a 21st century minute book for a bowling club. I have had a look across the web to find an equivalent and I cant find one. Some blogs cover events. Some cover a few photos. Some have a few comments every so often, but this one has been different. Just like the club.
So its the end of 2016. What a year! When you look back you realise what moves we have made. The Ladies winning the Glasgow Triples is by far the club's greatest achievements in over 30 years. The new club shirt has been one of the biggest successes and is commented on by so many. I was at a party last night and bumped into a few from Weirs Bowling Club - they had heard on the grapevine that we had 20 new members. We had a great set of championships with worth winners scooping the top honours within the club. We have hosted some of the best football fans from Peterhead, Aberdeen, Edinburgh and the Tartan Army faithful. Our invitations and friendly matches have been a great success. And finally the best one to top the lot - we had a half hour programme about HBC on Radio Scotland.
Most importantly people are talking about us.
2017 marks a couple of landmarks that are going to further shine a light on Hampden. First of all its the 150th anniverary of Queens Park Football Club. I have been speaking to Keith and Libby from the Supporters Club and they have great ideas for events for next year - we'll be in the mix for at least one of them which will be fab. The second is the Scotland v England game at the 3rd Hampden in June. That will be one to celebrate and hope to get a little feature out of that one - plans are in the mix. And finally the 3rd one - we will continue to keep the facebook, twitter, blog and website to keep our mission going.
So the final thought. For the final blog of 2016. Remember what the twitter account says......
The Hampden Bowling Club is the best wee club in the Southside of Glasgow. Our mission is to tell the world our story... and a have a lot of fun along the way!
From everyone at Hampden Bowling Club, we want to wish everybody a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
Cheers
