Throughout the bowling club calendar we have a number of friendlies throughout the year that are great opportunities to catch up with great friends from across the country. Each year we take turn about hosting each other's clubs and we have a great afternoon of bowls and then finish with a meal at the club. This weekend was the return of Millport to the bowling club and the weather was glorious. Considering last year was like a typhoon and everyone was completely soaked. So with the sun splitting the sky it was a welcome return to "Summer Bowls". What made it even better was a wee victory for Hampden by 4 shots and the trophy will be staying at Hampden.
This morning was the 4th 10k of the year for me and I made my way to the Riverside Museum in Glasgow for the Glasgow Mens 10k. The Restore1stHampden project is ticking along and this was the latest conquest. The weather was perfect (dry for once) and I also had a fellow runner David Morrison who is also a neighbour of HBC. We ran off both bearing the Hampden t-shirt around the Glasgow city and finished in George Square. 54m 56 secs for this one. Another one done. Crieff next on the 9th July. They are getting easier.....
This week on the bowling front was a mixed bag. The highlight was the friendly win but the Hampdeners suffered another 3 defeats in the Cathcart league on Thursday night with only one win (Secretary was involved in that one). Chris Brown was knocked out at the Semi Final stage of the Scottish and Charlotte McLay got through her first round of the Glasgow Ladies Singles. Also Carole Sleigh and Tommy Clark went out of the Scottish Mixed Pairs.
The Monday nights are also going really well and we have chalked up 7 new Gents members this year so far. Which is fabulous. More to come from that I think. We need to get the ladies section motoring and we could have our best ever year for new membership. We definitely need it!
So spread the word. Monday nights are getting more popular and the more the merrier. Its a great night to learn and enjoy the club.
Have a great week.
Cheers
