This blog was started on the 4th January with the following words 'It's a New Year. Its over a 111 years since this little club started. What a year we hope to have!'
Well the ambition was to keep the blog going through the whole year and give people a wee insight into a bowling club that is a little different. Its also diarising the work that we are doing at HBC to increase the membership and change the club so that we can make it into the next decade. Yes for those close to this wonderful game, bowling membership for several clubs has been dwindling. But we are on a mission to change that. How are we doing that? Well we are modernising every part of the club. Its a long journey but we really are getting there with our wee club.
After 6 months the true test of what we are up to is the membership. I had a quick glance back through the blog to see where we were at the start of the year. Well I made a wee comment on the AGM that I would have to write 57 letters out for the AGM. Now I would have to write 73. This is a mixture of Full members (we are now up to 47) and 26 Resident and Social Members. This is great progress and with the banners up and the Facebook, Twitter and Website doing well then there is a great sense of optimism in the club and its future.
So where do we go from here. Well our overall mission is to keep this club going until at least 2020 and beyond. The blog and the social media is just one part of the machinery that we need to get the club properly on the map. Also to show that we are now with the times I thought that a proper #hashtag was needed. So #HBC2020 is born. It is fitting that we have tweeted out 100 times so far so making this the 101st is very fitting indeed. This will chart out little mission into keeping Hampden Bowling Club going into the next decade!
So to this week's results. Its been another big week for HBC. The Ladies had a fantastic victory in the Glasgow Triples against Hillington winning 18 - 9. They now proceed into the Quarter Finals. Well done Jean, Kathy and Anne for a great performance. They are now off to Wellcroft in the next round. Here's hoping they continue the great run! As for the Cathcart League I have a big admission to make. Last week's blog wrongly reported that we we had lost all of our matches. However Kieran, Ian and Pat ran out victors that week. I promised them to set the story straight. So apologies chaps. So we only lost 3 of the 4 last week. This week we managed to loose all 4 games against Giffnock. So I was a week early in the report :-)We'll need to pick up this week and try and stitch together a few victories!
Yesterday we had Mount Florida visit us in our annual friendly. A great day out. The weather which was very ropey in the morning did not continue into the afternoon, which was perfect for the afternoon's game. It was a great game, great company and thanks to Yvonne for great catering. This made sure everyone went home very happy.
Oh and one more event. The monthly quiz was held on Friday. 4 teams were out to prove their trivia knowledge and Oh for Such's Fake ran out winners. The Quiz master (i.e. me) probably hasn't got that right but they did rather well!
Cheers
