This week was the first TryBowls event on a Monday night. A bit of a cold night but we still had a fair few out for the evening. We had the three coaches down including myself, Ian and Denise and we got the place setup. It was a good night to road test the evening and how best to use the BowlsParc gear. So from 6pm every Monday evening we will be here and provide anyone the opportunity to have a go. It was great to see someone who had never played have such a grand evening. So much so Mike will hopefully be back this week. We also had some of the members try out the rinks and its never as easy as it looks to get through the gates or sit on top of the targets. Great for practice. Here's hoping for some better weather and we'll get even more down to have a go.
The Hamdpeners were out in force this week. In the Glasgow Singles Tommy Clark was successful and got to another round. In the Glasgow - Seniors (Gerry Murphy, Pat Hunter, John Brett and Don Sleigh) were again successful and stride into the next round. In the Scottish this week, the Senior Rink (Tommy Clark, John Miller, John Anderson and Bill Shedden) went through with a convincing 8 shot victory. Ian Williams and Jim Peden were out in the pairs - however the letter was never received and they ended at Kingswood although the venue had been changed to Eaglesham. Nightmare - just shows you how bowls is still a wee bit behind email :-) So not only a disaster on the travel front but they also lost out in the game by two shots.
This week we are off to Bankfoot. We are hoping the weatherman lives up to the hype of a cracking weekend. Friendlies are a great day out for everyone and we have a lot this year. Its a great way to keep in touch with other clubs. Whats also funny is that the first part of every conversation is "How is your membership" or "how is the club doing"? Its also great to see other ideas from the different clubs too.
In terms of #Restore1stHampden I met up with Keith McAllister to discuss the Queens Park Birthday Weekend. We have a great evening planned for the Friday night and were meeting up to finalise the details. It will be a great fundraiser for the club and is one of a few that we have coming up. I also had the second leg of the 10x10ks which was at Pollok park - the Dick Wedlock Memorial Run. It was a great event and managed to get round it in 54 minutes. I am hoping to get the times down through the summer. We are nearly hitting £500 so will need to give it a bit of a turbocharge to get it moving.
Another interesting week.
