This week is a special week. With the upcoming Auld Enemy clash on Saturday I have been waiting for this day quite some time. Its another opportunity to tell the world about 1st Hampden. I got in touch with Craig Stewart (a journalist who has supported the cause on several occasions) to see if we could put together an article that would make the papers. So the main challenge is how you make it interesting. Thumbing through the history of the 1st Hampden, I knew that Scotland had played England three times at 1st Hampden and had won the lot. So that was the main part of the focus as well as retelling the story of finding the 1st Hampden this year. Craig worked up the article and it was great to see it in the Sunday Post today. It had the perfect title. "This Hampden really was a Tartan Fortress" and it had a great picture of the Pavilion. What a phrase - I might use that one for the club going forward ;-) It also covered the #Restore1stHampden project and had the link to the crowdfunding page. That's the first time it has been in the paper. Fabulous. Big Thanks to Craig again!
Now its how to keep the momentum going so Craig and I are working on the next one. I just need a wee help from the guys coming on Saturday. So here's hoping we can get another article in. It's the only way to really get some visibility of the club. Remember the Twitter page motto - Our mission is to tell the world our story... So its another chapter in the tale.
So what else has been going on? So the weather. On Monday night we have our TryBowls night. It was a wee bit wet but one our new members Jim Bowman phoned me up and said "Are you still on for tonight to show me the ropes". He was keen as mustard as he had his first tie the following night. You can't beat enthusiasm so we went out and got him up and running in the rain. Just shows you the welcome you get at the club!
It was not the only wet day. On Saturday there was a couple of us out on the green with a couple of ties. Now it went from Thunder and Lightening to chucking it down with rain and then to lovely sunshine. The green actually dried out over the game completely. It was completely barmy.
So onto the favourite part the results for the week. The high is definitely Charlotte McLay victory that has put her into the Semi Finals of the Scotland Ladies Singles. A tremendous achievement and managed to get a picture onto the Facebook page. Chris Brown has also progressed in the Under 25 Scottish Singles - which is fab as well. Alan, Jim and Danny were out in the Scottish Triples and were beaten this week. The Cathcart League opener was not so fruitful and we were beaten by Weir Bowling Club in all four matches. Royally thumped! We were also out in the Cathcart Seniors League this week and lost both games as well. But most importantly we are representing the club and have a lot of good results. Lets hope it continues.
So a big week to come. We have the Tartan Army coming on Saturday. Lots of photos and opportunities to promote 1st Hampden. Looking forward to it!
