This week was our big event. The annual summer fete. Every year we pull out the stalls for the books, Bric-A-Brac, Tombola, DVDs and CDs (oh and even a Charlie Chaplin VHS and Neil Diamond Greatest hits Vinyl record...). We get the food (hot dogs this year), tea, coffee and cakes ready. Make the place look sparkling, send out the leaflets and spread the word. Finish it all off with bowls on the green, Facepainter and a raffle and you have a great day in store. The only thing you now need is the weather. Come on its the end of July, why would you be worried about that.... The forecast all week was ropey with rain and wind but somehow on the afternoon it managed to stay relatively dry. Which was fantastic.
Jim had been telling me all week that the fete had never been cancelled. And this year was no different. There was a steady stream of people throughout the afternoon. From kids running around with their faces painted. People getting a good catchup over a tea and cake. A few beers being had as they sifted through the book stall and people winning at the bottle stall. Overall a great fundraiser for the club.
I would like to thank and congratulate everyone that put in all the hard work and effort into making the day. A stellar effort and organisation. And also a big thanks to everyone that came along and supported the club. Thats what makes it a great day. People enjoying themselves - great to see.
So what else has been going on. Well the second last game of the Cathcart League was on Thursday night. Giffnock (League Leaders) against Hampden (Bottom). The odds were stacked against us but somehow we managed to win one at home and one away. A fantastic result and hopefully gets us off the bottom. Everything else is the run into the Finals Weekend at the end of August. New Club Champions await.
A big good luck to Jim Peden who has made it through to the Cathcart Singles League Semi Final which will take place on Tuesday. His tie is up at Cardonald and we wish him all the best. He is on form as today Glasgow Ex Presidents played Edinburgh Ex Presidents and Glasgow run out winners. The trophy is meant to be spectacular and Ian Williams and Jim won their tie to help them pick up the trophy. Now we just hope that the bus turned up to take them home. It was 20 minutes late when i spoke to him last....
And finally the Restore1stHampden. Last weekend was the 6th 10k. Musselburgh conquered. Now onto Dundonald this Wednesday. The Crowdfunding page has been relaunched and a few more irons in the fire to get us noticed. We are at £1100 and now got a few months to raise as much as possible. Thanks so much to all those that contributed so far! Please share it around. Its for a fantastic cause.
I'll put out the link again just now.
Cheers
