Another guest blog for this week from John Douglas. It is the penultimate weekend of the bowls season. On Saturday afternoon I played a friendly game against Mike Kenny, one of our new members this season. It was glorious weather (better than much of the official summer) but let’s not mention the score! Thanks to Gerry for opening up the club for us.
Next Saturday (7th October) it is Closing Day, with a competition using Australian scoring: the closest bowl gets 4 points, second closest 3 points, third closest 2 points and the fourth closest 1 point. Hence, one team may end up scoring 10 points on a single end, which could get expensive. As sometimes a bowler can feel robbed when they are holding many shots and then on the last bowl the opposition comes in and snatches the shot, the Australian scoring may actually be fairer. Let’s see next Saturday. We are due on the green at 2pm. Fingers crossed for another sunny autumn afternoon.
The night before (Friday 6th October) I am running the monthly quiz. September’s quiz was regrettably cancelled due to a poor turnout so I hope to see you at the club in force this month.
Thanks and hope to see you next weekend
