Last year was a big year for Hampden. It was the first for a long time with a victory in the Glasgow Bowling Association Championships. Our Ladies Triples went off with the trophy - a proper David v Goliath moment for the club. Well this week we entered into the Glasgow Championships and we were off to a winning start. Tommy won in the singles. Alan, Craig and Jim won in the triples. It was topped off by the Seniors winning with Gerry, Don, John and Pat. A great start to the competition.
The ladies were out in the Bowls Scotland Pairs and Jean and Vi put up a sterling performance but were pipped to a 15-14 defeat. However last year's triples Champions were out representing Glasgow in the first leg against Rutherglen and picked up a win - the only Glasgow team to do so. Well done ladies!
There were a couple of ties postponed. Carole's singles match was postponed due to the weather and the Gents friendly against Giffnock.... well it truly was only weather for ducks. We waited around for 30 minutes but then we chucked it and had our sandwiches and coffee. Not a complete waste of an afternoon.
So we are off and running in the fixtures. We have all the club competitions up on the boards. We are also in a number of main competitions and hope the form continues. More success is exactly what we need. So how do we do that - well tomorrow night is the first TryBowls event. Every Monday night through the summer we will have 3 coaches on the green. Helping newbies, kids and the members to improve their game. Here's hoping the weather stays good! It all starts at 6pm.
So onto how we improving the place. Today I met up with Tam about the promo video he is going to put together - that is taking shape. That is going to help us with the Crowdfunding page and really get it going - we're over £400 so far.. I am also discussing with Keith on the format for the Queens Park birthday celebrations scheduled for July. The big one is the mural for the back wall and finally have a ball park figure for that. There is a whole refurb plan sketched out with Tommy and we'll start to plan the phasing of it. Ian and Jim went to another training course that we need to do for the club coaching - so we are really firing on all cylinders.
And finally the big fundraiser. Next Saturday is the second leg of the 10ks and I am off to Pollock Park to do the Dick Wedlock 10k. I was out this morning and hope I run a little bit faster that this morning. Anyway the challenge continues. I was speaking to Libby and the t-shirt has been mocked up. It looks great! So if you fancy it then please look at the race list. I have updated the main webpage. Have a look for the details:
