So this weekend marks the culmination of competitions that have been played through the summer. Over two days there has been 7 finals played. The sun was shining and there was an army of Hampden Bowling Tops with all the members coming along to watch Hampden's best battle it out in the finals.
So here were the runners and riders and the final results:
Firstly big congratulations to the Champions of the club. Charlotte Mclay beat Anne Young in the Ladies Championship to claim the title, whilst Jim Milligan beat Don Sleigh to win the Gents Championship. These are the top trophies that everyone has their eye on so it is a great achievement. It wasn't Jim's only victory of the weekend as he won the Kingsley Cup by beating Pat Hunter in the final. As he said as he picked up the now famous trophy (we'll not write down what Ian Williams called it) this was the one he wanted so that he could say he had the entire set of competitions through his HBC Career. The grand slam has been completed. Now he just needs to win the Glasgow next year and he can keep chipping away at the list :-)
In the Gents Presidents Cup Ian Williams beat Pat Hunter in the final to claim another Hampden Trophy. It is great thanks to Ian for all his hard work over the weekend to get the finals organised and also throughout the season to ensure ties are picked and played. Hats off to you sir. Also congrats to Pat for reaching two finals this year!
Wendy Highet in her first year at Hampden won the Ronaldson by beating Linda Brett in the final. Great final and big congrats to Wendy on her maiden HBC victory. Good luck to Wendy in the Rutherglen District Ladies final this week. Congratulations to John Anderson who picked up his first trophy at HBC by beating Anne Clelland in the Vice Presidents. Overall a big thanks to everyone that contributed to the weekend - food, markers, umpires, players and spectators!
There are still a number of competitions to be played over the coming weeks. Pairs and the Gents Seniors are still to be played for so plenty of bowling still to be played out. The season is coming to a close. I know i keep saying it but the green looked fab today. Green, no moss, running well and looks pukka.
So one final big mention. The Quiz is this Friday night at Hampden. John Douglas is in the chair so if you fancy it please head along for about 7:30pm. The nights are drawing in and a quiz on a Friday is a great way to kick off your weekend.
Last but not least, No 8 of the 10ks was completed this week at Irvine. A touch under 55 minutes and only two to go. In fact I thought we were a lot slower than that so the fitness must be improving.
Have a grand week
