I have often talked about the friendships that are built up between bowling clubs and the friendlies that get played. There is always a story of why a bowling friendly starts. Mainly because a member may know someone in another club. There might have been a football fixture that members of a club had turned up. They may be in the area and call you up to ask if you are interested in a game. Our relationship with Methven this year celebrated 20 years and today was no different. Everyone thoroughly enjoying themselves as 5 triples headed out onto the Hampden Green to take part in the annual friendly.
Methven ran out victors by a 60 shots to 59. A close affair on paper however Hampden only had one win but an almighty one at that with Ian Williams team ending 15 shots up on his rink. But the score is secondary; the friendship is what really matters and long may it continue. Its a great day and again there was lots of praise for the green in terms of how well it was running and how good it was looking. For many years the green has been a problem so get that sort of praise is fantastic.
Other goings on. The ladies are playing in the Rutherglen District at Croftfoot against Kingswood tomorrow. So good luck to them. Its great to see them doing so well. There was also a presentation for the Cathcart League on Thursday night and Giffnock were the league champs. The Trybowls evening was was unfortunately rained off. It was chucking it down. Not many left of these nights now. The evenings are drawing in.
We also had the committee meeting. The monthly delve into HBC's finances, green report, match secretary and secretary's report. Never a dull affair.....Lots to be getting on with as we approach the end of the season. Oh and I noticed lots of new views on the Facebook page which is good to see.
So one final thing. A plug for finals weekend on 26th and 27th. Should be a great weekend to watch some bowls. Please come down and support the finalists.
Hope you all have a good week!
