This week there is a big birthday in Glasgow. Queens Park FC celebrates its 150th year on Sunday. It was formed on the 9th July 1867 at 8.30pm. It all started in a meeting room in Eglinton Terrace, although the terrace is no longer its spot is thought to be above the Victoria Bar on Victoria Road. Without these amazing people our little club would not be here. Keith McAllister has a whole weekend events for the Supporters and Hampden BC will play a wee role in there too over the weekend.
This week Hampden we were again out in the Cathcart League and there was a league clash with our neighbours Queens Park. The points were split on a night, which is an improvement and hope to get ourselves moving up the league - the only way is up :-). The Glasgow Ladies Triple Champions were out this week seeking to defend their title. Unfortunately their amazing achievement won't be repeated this time around, as Linthouse BC were the victors on the day. No matter their achievement will live on in the history books.
In the Glasgow Seniors League we are doing a bit better with home and away wins this week. Special thanks goes to JJ Ahern who stood in to make up the numbers. Amazing for a player in his 90s to turn out for the club. What an achievement, great to see for the club and just shows what a universal game this is!
There was also a friendly against Mount Florida. Our other local neighbours. Great to see one of the recent joiners (Mike Kenny) from the club have a go in the friendly. Even if you have just started you can get involved straight away - everyone helps getting you into the game. Great to see the Monday Try Bowls Evening working well.
Another grand week to look forward too.
Cheers
